New Factsheet :: Synthetic Stimulants :: Bath Salts
These synthetic-drug products are often sold as bath salts in head shops, gas stations and other locations. Alternatively, they have been marketed as plant food. They are labeled “Not for human consumption,” but users ingest, smoke, snort or inject the products to obtain a high similar to that of meth or cocaine.
Many of the drugs used to make these products are not approved for medical use in the United States. The Drug Enforcement Administration does not regulate these substances, but they are under federal scrutiny, as the effects of these salts are comparable to methamphetamine abuse, according to poison control centers and other law enforcement agencies.
